Recently in a small group, we were talking about how the Lord disciplines us because He loves us (Hebrews 12:6). One person in the group brought up how so often, just when we think we’ve gotten to a pretty good spot in our spiritual walks, it seems that new testing comes, and new struggles from within are brought to the surface through which the Lord is able to discipline us.

The Lord brought something up in my heart. In my experience, this recurring testing, to me, is a reflection of the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord. Many of us, myself included, carry so many layers of struggles, pain, and sin. To the point that often we don’t even know how deep the layers go. But God does.

Every time we feel like something ugly & fresh is brought up from within us, or we are made to face one of our wounds, it’s as if God is peeling another layer off of us, refining us. And in my heart, I believe the Lord does this to prepare us for heaven. For that day when we will be with him face to face.

How jarring it would be if we arrived in heaven with all of our bulky layers. But by his good grace, he is refining us now, here on earth, making us a little more ready for perfection, a little more like Jesus, layer by layer.

And layer by layer, we taste a little more of heaven, more of true freedom here on earth.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. – Romans 8:28-30 ESV

I'm a dreamer who loves spending lazy days nestled up at home with her husband and three boys. I am always up for meeting new people and learning new things. My absolute biggest passions in life are seeing lives transformed by Jesus and helping people achieve their dreams. Currently, I'm studying up on how to homestead using regenerative agricultural practices, and am thrilled to share our journey in Colorado with you all!

[…] God is so faithful. In my experience, He has never skipped a chance to show me the areas where I could receive some additional healing from Him (feel free to read my post on “Layers” for more on this). […]
