The Mitford Series of books by Jan Karon is one of my favorites. I am reading it through for the third time right now. When Father Tim (the main character) encounters something hard, he often calls out, “Philippians 4:13, for Pete’s sake!” Makes me smile every time.
There are times when I don’t know what to pray or the day is just too hard. I often need a little jolt to remember I am not doing this alone.
Being a single mom is hard. I’m not going to kid you. If you are one, you already know. It doesn’t take long to figure it out. Everything is on you. All the rules, all the responsibility, possibly even most or all of the providing. And it’s an awful lot for one person to carry.
Thank goodness, we don’t have to do this alone.
I have asked God to be the other parent in my home. To make up for all I lack and cover my little one (and my parenting) with His unending grace and provision. And through Him, I know we will have all we need.
So those days when you don’t think you can…
clean up one more mess on the bathroom floor
stay calm through one more fit
drive one more kid to one more activity
stay awake after the little ones are asleep to finish your work
Just remember, you only have to do the next thing. You can do this. With God’s grace and strength, you can do anything.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
May God’s strength and grace and peace fill you today. I am praying for you.
